sort of.
My fiancé, Carlos Alberto Plazas Jr. is my very best friend in the entire world. He is everything i am not, and I'm everything he isn't. We work as a team, and I honestly believe that's how we haven't gone insane these past four years. In short, we are essentially just two lazy bum goofballs who are overly obsessed with food, New Jersey, and our cat.
Our very first ( and only) Pensacola Blue Wahoos Game, Summer 2012
Carlos and I met in March of 2006. At an FBLA State Conference, held in Edison NJ. Not the most romantic way to meet, but we'll deal. We were both competitors in the Impromptu Speaking competition (not surprising at all). We instantly clicked and just talked to each other pretty much the whole time. (I don't know if he knows this, but when I walked in and sat down, I wanted to sit next to the cutest guy there. With his spiky hair and chinstrap, he won my 15-year-old heart right then and there. I am very grateful my 22 year old self now thinks otherwise, in regards to spiky hair and chinstraps). We hung out with our other friends throughout the night, but it was pretty clear to everybody but us that there was something there. Of course, being the good guy he was/is, when we exchanged phone numbers and AIM screen names (whaaaaaaaat!), the conversation turned to his girlfriend, which was the sign that we were just going to remain friends. I, being a sophomore, was totally okay with this, even though I already knew I had a crush on this kid. And, he liked me too. Whoops.
Fast forward to Christmas of that year, when he and his girlfriend had broken up. He was devastated and we became closer, as friends. Since neither one of us drove, we could only see each other at FBLA events. (Yeah, I know. ) Our homes were about half an hour away from each other- if only we knew how much further we'd drive and fly to see each other in the future! We had our first kiss in March of 2007. (Looking back, he already knew he was going to the Naval Academy.....I had no clue, of course).
His plebe year/ my senior year came and went. May of 2008, as my final semester of senior epitome of awesomeness commenced, Carlos, who I hadn't heard from since Christmas (I assume it was because of plebe restrictions, but who knows) and I begin talking again, and we went on our first "date". Because it was during Intercessionals, (which I obviously didn't know about then), I had to skip school to see him.
He went away for the summer again, but we started talking more and more often that summer. I began Rutgers University in September of 2008, and he began his 3/c year at the Naval Academy. He came home one weekend, the weekend I was celebrating my 18th birthday. He came home again the week prior to Thanksgiving for USNA Recruitment. That is the time we made it "official", that we were boyfriend and girlfriend. However, we use the 10/11/08 date, because....well.... i don't know, but we did.
Three years and five months later, after numerous trips, billions of phone calls, Oovoo sessions, USNA events (including a commissioning), and travels and moving, began the next step towards the future. On March 11th, 2012, Carlos proposed to me on NAS Pensacola beach through an elaborately romantic setup, including a song he wrote and sang to me himself. I am ecstatic at the opportunity to be his wife, and for us to grow together, as a married couple, as a team, as best friends, and eventually, parents of our little family (:

And now.... as we get through flight school and graduate school, we look forward to the days ahead of us, and the many adventures to come :)
